I began my adventure with Okefenokee EMS in November of 2001 after working at a paint store for 20 years. Starting part time answering phones, I gradually learned medical billing with hope that I could become full time if we got at least 2 dialysis patients to transport. That vision was soon realized.

With Derek as my teacher, I learned the ambulance service industry and have continued my education by becoming a certified ambulance coder. Over the years I have enjoyed building relationships with nursing homes, hospitals, and other facilities and helping patients in need of both emergency and non-emergency transports. Together we navigate the tricky business of Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements and help to the best of our abilities and beyond.

So much has changed in the last nearly 20 years. What we did in a month’s time we do in a day now. The company has grown so much, but the basic principal stays the same. “We transport people, not just patients.”
