Don Towne

 

         Don Towne is the Operations Manager for the Glynn/Camden office at Okefenokee EMS. He has been in the public safety field for over 27 years beginning in Folkston, Georgia as a volunteer firefighter. After graduating from Charlton County High School in 1988, he served in the United States Coast Guard until receiving an honorable discharge in 1992. While in the Coast Guard, his duty stations included the USCGC Salvia in Mobile, Alabama and then on to New Jersey at the USCG TRACEN Fire Department.

 

         After returning to South Georgia, he continued serving the public in the capacity of a firefighter, EMT-I, and police officer. Following in his father’s footsteps, Don advanced through the ranks of the fire service, achieving the rank of Fire Chief of the Charlton County Volunteer Fire Department in Folkston, GA. Apart from his firefighting duties, he assisted in obtaining over $1.2 million in grant funding for firefighting equipment and public fire safety education for local fire departments.

 

         Don attended several courses at both the National Fire Academy in Emmittsburg, Maryland, and GPSTC in Forsyth, Ga., as well as other public safety training institutions across the country. In 2012, Don earned an A.A.S. Degree in Fire Science from West Georgia Technical College. He is currently seeking a B.S. Undergraduate Degree in Public Safety Leadership from Mercer University, where he is a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society.

 

         In his spare time, Don enjoys visiting with his two sons, Kavin, who is attending Valdosta State University, and Cole, who is attending the University of Georgia.
