Dr. Joshua McCarthy

Dr Joshua McCarthy was born and raised in Waycross, GA. He was educated through the Ware County school system and Haywood Baptist Church. He graduated from Waycross College, Valdosta State University, and the Medical College of Georgia. He did his internship at MCG and completed his family Medicine Residency at Mayo Waycross with clinic at GPS.

He is board certified in Family Medicine. He has been with GPS since his graduation from their training program in July 2015. He also serves as a Flight Surgeon with the GA Army National Guard, EMS director of Okefenokee EMS, and as a staff physician with St Illa.

Part of the reason for picking family medicine was the ability to be a jack-of-all-trades, something that would allow him to work where he is needed in his hometown. Part of that service is with Okefenokee EMS. He has known (the children of many of) his coworkers for years and knew of their character and work ethics. He knew of the service provided to his patients by the EMTs and paramedics and was happy to accept. . Only problem he had with the job offer was it was made at his favorite restaurant while he was supposed to be losing weight!

He is an active member of Haywood Baptist Church and leads the RA program. He and his wife Kristin have 3 rapidly-growing children.
